This was a self-initiated project, simply for the challenge of making the Google homepage more modern, consistent and user-friendly.
Starting with Andrew Paglinawin's Quicksand font (which I modified somewhat), I created a new logotype for Google while retaining its most recognizable brand elements (the colors, the unique lowercase "g", and the gradient look they've established in their web apps).
I eliminated the "I'm feeling lucky" link, since I never use it and don't know anyone who does. I also standardized the link colors and moved nonessential links to the outside edges, allowing the user to focus easily on the main search function.
